VIDEOS IN THE CLASSROOM
A good movie can leave you with a volume of information and
evoke a range of emotions. A video for classroom instruction can encompass all
of the above. Using this creative
technological tool can appeal to all the different learning styles, visual,
audio and tactic. The use of sound, imagery and play on emotions are strategies
to keep the students interested and engaged.
In addition to appealing to your audience, the video can be an
excellent recall tool and can spark interactive discussion within the classroom.
Teachers could get a variety of assessments from using the video in the class
for examples written summaries, roleplaying and active debates.
Incorporating a video as a learning tool is a fun and creative
way to get across information to our class sessions.
REFLECTION
The
short film (Get serious stay in school) geared for students to be viewed at an
assembly gathering to bring awareness of Truancy and Absenteeism in the schools
space. This mode of communication is one
way of trying to reach the secondary schools students about this social issue
facing our education system.
The
challenge encountered was attempting to understand the Movie Maker computer
program and to operate within its limitations.
When working on this project one had to think constantly about catering
for the designated audience, is this boring? Is it appealing? Can we keep their
mind engaged? All these questions surfaced.
From focused research and viewing other ideas, one was able to stick to
the line and keep the final result short and to the point.
Overall
all the video is satisfactory and is insightful to adolescents. Improvement
could be made on the quality of the videos incorporated and the overall length
of the short. A more catchy title could have possibly been considered. Once
again the use of technology was a tool for communicating for active social
awareness.
