Planning for instruction is the foundation of every
excellent lesson.
Everyone has been in a position
where they were uncomfortable and embarrassed because they were under-dressed/over-dressed.
Don’t we wish that the invitation had stated the dress code? If we had known we would have been confident,
comfortable and strutting our stuff.
The same can be seen this in our classroom,
no lesson plan and we are faced with eager faces waiting on our delivery and
oops! surprise assessment.
If we have this magical aid the
lesson plan, we would be the bell of the ball, comfortable, engaging and
achieving our objectives, while delivering attractive content to get the students
soaking up our awesomeness.
Now that is a party!
Including ICTs ( Information and Communication
Technologies ) in the instruction process is even more valuable.
I use to be a teacher that taught the way I was taught in
the classroom. One day I was faced with the challenge of the absent text
book. I had an aha moment! I instructed my students to take out their
cell phones and record me teaching the lesson, noting the steps to bisect an
angle. The students in turn had to
record themselves completing their homework.
I heard the rustling
and buzz of excitement in the classroom. As I delivered my lesson I saw different
antics, future film directors and camera specialists. My objectives were achieved and students were
able to keep recordings to totally grasp concept and to keep as a reference. The
students completed the assignment and shared in class.
ICT worked in this instance. “It is fun, easy to use and produces great results. Kids love it and you have to drag them off
it!” (Jeremy Biddulph, playing for Success Coordinator: Derby). Engaging
the children in a fun, intriguing way using their own device students gets a
chance to take charge of their learning and it gives the rewarding outcome
every teacher wants.
This captured my interest and I was intrigued.
ReplyDeleteThis placed a smile on my face due to the excitement of your post, now i am excited to give it a try in my classroom. However, how do you make sure everyone is comfortable and knowledgeable of using the technology?
ReplyDeleteOffering my assistance and making myself available for any questions. Also practice makes perfect so ask the students to have an open mind and introduce more than one method of technology in the classroom.
